Globally, this ant genus with 80 species representing the lion's share falls, however, on the Mediterranean. In Central Europe are only three different species of Aphaenogaster to find, one of which is located in Germany. The preferred habitat is populated characterized by a marked-up tree shrub layer and less by planar surfaces.
